This week we focus on our goal scorers. As we showcase those top scorers across our teams from this year.
The segment will highlight those skills which make the game focusing on the different attributes and players within our teams. This week it is the turn of our shooters!
An art form in itself especially for our littler Tigers who first need to find that power to reach that tall and daunting 10 foot net.
Amongst the teams this year there have been players who have contributed to the scoreboards throughout the team but here is the run down of those that notched up the most this season.
Bedford Tigers Azures (Teals) - Y KETT
An out and out goal shooter, KETT has been prolific under the net for our adults side, assisting them to win the ‘Gary Burgess’ Cup this year.
One of our very own coaches and committee members, KETT also spends her time training and coaching the under 16’s. A player who lives and breathes the game and is certainly most comfortable in front of the post.
Bedford Tigers Golds - E ELLIS
Our top scorer for our years 9-11 girls. A shooter who just quietly goes about their business. She has contributed to the Golds getting their hands on the Versatility Cup this season. Shooting clearly running in the family as her sister also features in this article for the younger age group.
Bedford Tigers Saffrons - T MCGEE
MCGEE thrives under the net and has made a dent in the Beds & District division 1, which is where the Saffrons played their netball this year. A keen student of the game and securing County trials this year demonstrates her hard work as a GS
Bedford Tigers Sapphires - E HIGGENS
The sister of ‘hot shot’ ELLIS, HIGGENS certainly takes after her older sister although she would tell you she is the better baller. A tightly contested competition for top goal scorer in the Sapphires owing to the forced rotations of positions and a number of shooters amongst them, but HIGGENS persistence under the net paid off on the very last game of the season, taking the top spot by just one goal, at 28 for the year. A player who loves assisting her own goals from rebounded first efforts, HIGGENS is likely to beat that tally year on year.
Bedford Tigers Jades - G RUSSELL
Another player in the year 4-6 league with rotations finds themselves with less time under the net but this Year 5 student quickly found her favoured position given any opportunity as a GA or GS. 12 for this talented young prospect to round off her season and with another year in the 4-6 age group, despite the rotations I am sure we have found RUSSELL’s position standing out as a composed and natural shooter.
Talent in abundance through every age group and a skill essential for the game of netball, being developed in training and coached down the age groups.
If you are unsure of just how difficult and pressurised our shooters have it, pop yourself under that post and the realisation of the talent we have across our Tigers team will soon be realised.
Congratulations ladies, may you only increase on those high scoring tallies next season.
Go Tigers!
